Association of General Maister Societies

The first General Maister society was founded in 1997 in Ljubljana. The society brought together Maister’s fighters, the descendants of Maister’s fighters, and others who wished to preserve the memory of the work done by General Rudolf Maister and his fighters for Slovenia’s northern border, as well as all nationally conscious Slovenians who worked together for an independent Slovenia. Branches were also formed elsewhere; in Kamnik, Maribor and Unec, for example. Because the branches became independent and turned into societies, an umbrella organisation was needed, so, in 2005, the Association of General Maister Societies, which today includes 26 societies, was formed.
